“Investigating readers’ failure to notice ‘obvious’ errors in text”

tenuto dal Prof. Adrian Staub della University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Di seguito l’abstract del seminario:

In this talk I will describe a series of recent studies from my lab, using both eye tracking during reading and behavioral paradigms, that have investigated readers’ failure to notice repetition of a word, omission of a word, or transposition of adjacent words.  Our results indicate that these failures are not due primarily to insufficient encoding (i.e., the eyes skipping the critical words), nor are they due to parallel processing of adjacent words.  I will describe our current account, which attributes these failures to post-perceptual rational inference.
